Conor McManus
Software engineer & systems builder

I build software and infrastructure that actually runs in production – from office tools and small automations to platforms handling billions of requests per day.

Profile

I’m comfortable anywhere in the stack: frontend, backend, infrastructure, and real-time media. I like solving practical problems with simple, reliable systems – cloud, on-prem, or fully local.

Mailroom Assistant

Mailroom Assistant
Local, AI-assisted renaming for scanned mail.

Mailroom Assistant is a standalone program that runs on your own machine, connected to a scanner. It takes scanned PDFs and renames them with clear, business-friendly file names – including sender, topic, and optional appointment dates – without sending full documents through my infrastructure.

  • Local-first: documents stay on your hardware.
  • Connects to OpenAI, Mistral, and Ollama-compatible APIs.
  • Configurable snippet length and prompts to control AI costs.
  • Multi-language UI (English & German).

Selected work

A few things I’ve actually shipped
Remote RC car streaming & control
  • Platform to remotely control an RC car over the internet with live video via WebRTC.
  • C++ integration with libdatachannel, plus a web UI for driving and viewing the stream.
  • Discord bots to manage access keys and show when the stream is live.
Video sync & randomizer platform
  • Bot + website that picks random videos from multiple sources and syncs playback between viewers.
  • Handles room/session management and keeps everyone in sync across different content providers.
Enterprise-scale traffic & load balancing
  • Worked on the load balancing and scaling of a market-research platform tracking watch times across 4 continents.
  • The system handled billions of requests per day with tight availability and latency constraints.
Ephemeral services platform
  • Platform to launch short-lived services (Grafana, Airflow, game servers, Jamulus and more) with Docker Compose.
  • Used the same pattern to spin up on-demand infrastructure for experiments, pipelines, and internal tools.
Games and legacy systems
  • 2D arcade-style games built in Godot with online leaderboards.
  • Custom VB.NET ecommerce site built from scratch and still running in production.

Services

I work with companies that need someone who can design, build, and operate the thing end-to-end.

  • Custom tools & internal apps – small, focused tools that automate repetitive work for your team.
  • Backends & APIs – from prototypes to production services that handle real traffic.
  • Infrastructure & automation – Terraform, Docker, and CI-driven environments across multiple accounts and environments.
  • Streaming & real-time systems – WebRTC, bots, and integrations for live video, control, and monitoring.

Extra

  • Designed a Terraform workflow/protocol for handling multiple AWS accounts and environments using Git and assumed roles.
  • Invited to Google’s Foobar challenge in 2021
